Our Bulls and Heifers are Top Quality
Dykes Charolais started in 1993 with 13 bred heifers, we purchased 7 additional heifers in the Skymont dispersal in 1996, and 10 heifers from the Sounderup Herd in 1996. We have built our herd to 110 cows from that point. We have used AI breeding on most of our herd through the years, using bulls with strong maternal traits, natural thickness, eye appeal, strong carcass traits and a strong market acceptance. We have selected herd bulls from some of the top breeders and some of the top sales in the business.
For several years we cooperated with Thomas Ranch in South Dakota in marketing the top end of our bulls and heifers. On one of my trips to the Thomas Ranch, I had the opportunity to see TR SMOKE ON THE WATER, and then saw FIREWATER as a calf in Denver. We were fortunate enough to purchase 1/4 interest and spring possession in TR MR FIREWATER in 2006 and he was named National Champion the following fall. Firewater daughters have become a very important part of our program, making a beautiful set of front pasture cows that produce great calves.
Beginning in the spring of 2018 we bred several of our cows to Red Charolais bulls, when we selected the top end of our 2019 calf crop, they were all Red Factor calves! We are excited to offer the Red Factor bulls for the spring of 2020 and will be offering some each year going forward. We are pleased to be cooperating with Laue Charolais Ranch and Double C Ranch in Hanover, KS on the Red and Red Factor calves.
Bull prospects are selected from the top half of our bull calves, we select bulls that are thick, deep, moderate framed and consistent. Bulls will be offered for sale Private Treaty. We also offer top quality heifers through private treaty.
